SWOT water surface elevation
Each point is a SWOT observation (L2 HR Raster) extracted at the selected site. Without an observation there is no point: sampling follows the satellite pass cycle. Water area, where available, follows the method of Rai et al. (2026); open circles mark passes that covered only part of the lake.

Lake water area
Derived from SWOT following Rai et al. (2026). Open circles mark passes that covered only part of the lake. The shaded band is the formal precision of the sum, not a validated accuracy — the source paper reports around 15 % error against optical water masks.

Lake Eyre
Australia’s lowest point and largest salt lake, dry for most of its history and, when the rivers of its basin reach it, an inland sea for a while. This observatory follows its water from space, alongside its natural history, its catchment and the Aboriginal peoples whose country it is.
